The Griffith Animal Control operates under the authority of the Griffith Police Department and is charged with the duty of insuring the well-being and proper treatment of cats and dogs within the Town of Griffith.  This duty is accomplished through the enforcement of applicable state laws and town ordinances that govern the care and treatment of domesticated animals, as well as the general sheltering and care for all abandoned, lost, or other at needs cats and dogs of Griffith.  The Griffith Animal Control is staffed by Animal Warden Sandi Litke, three part-time aides, and a host of extremely dedicated volunteers facilitated through a partnership with Treasured Friends Animal Rescue and Adoption.

Through our partnership with Treasured Friends Animal Rescue and Adoption, the Town of Griffith can offer a sustainable no-kill animal control center with minimal impact to the town’s financial resources.  All dogs and cats available for adoption are featured on the Treasured Friends Animal Rescue and Adoption website and are frequently featured at weekly adoption events hosted at Petsmart, in Schererville.

All adoptions are facilitated through Treasured Friends Animal Rescue and Adoption.  Please visit their website to complete an online pet adoption application if you are interested in adopting.

If you have lost a pet or located a suspected lost pet please call central dispatch at (219) 660-0000.  Also, to ensure that our animal shelter staff is also aware of the lost or located pet, please call (219) 922-1766 and leave a message with all pertinent information.
