COVID-19 Information

At this time, in response to the COVID-19 virus, the Griffith Police Department is strongly discouraging public visits to the Griffith Police Department. Record requests, such as: police reports, VIN checks, vehicle releases, etc., can and are preferred to be facilitated via telephone and email. In this regard, please call (219) 924-7503, between 8 AM and 4 PM, Mon-Fri, instead of physically visiting the Griffith Police Department.

In addition to this measure, the Griffith Police Department will be screening calls for service to determine the appropriate level of response by our officers. Calls for service that are deemed to be non-emergency in nature will be taken via telephone. As always, calls of an emergency nature should be reported by calling 911. Non-emergency calls should be reported to (219) 660-0000.

When calling to report your call for service, regardless of the call’s nature, please provide the dispatcher with as much information as possible. If your request is determined by the police supervisor to be of a non-emergency nature a police officer will call you at the number you provided the dispatcher, as soon as an officer is available. PLEASE NOTE, our response to EMERGENCY CALLS for service will remain UNCHANGED throughout the COVID-19 outbreak.

The Griffith Police Department will continue to monitor this evolving public health situation and may make further operational changes to ensure that we maintain the best public service coverage for our community. Furthermore, we will continue to consult with the Center for Disease Control, our state and local health officials, and all our community stakeholders as we continue make informed decisions regarding these matters.

If you experience symptom such as fever, cough, and shortness of breath, or have contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19, please contact your healthcare provider for further direction. General questions about COVID-19 may be directed to the Indiana State Department of Health’s Epidemiology Center at (317) 233-7125 (afterhours: 317-233-1325), or email epiresource@isdh.in.gov.
