Potholes and Minor Street Repairs

Routine street repairs, including crack sealing, are scheduled and performed by the Public Works Department. You may request a repair for a specific location by calling Public Works at 219-924-3838. Scheduling considerations for street repairs include: the type and cause of the damage, (sewer collapse, pavement heat-blow-ups, etc.), street classification, traffic volume, is the street already scheduled for maintenance in the near future, and the availability of time and resources.

Street Resurfacing

The Public Work Department annually schedules streets for resurfacing and/or crack-sealing. These repairs take place in the spring and summer months. Please contact the Public Works Department for more information about when certain streets are scheduled for resurfacing.

Snow Removal

The Griffith Public Works Department prides itself on providing our Residents with quality snow removal services. We wish to remind our Residents that according to Town of Griffith ordinance, it is unlawful for any person (resident or contractor) to shovel, blow, or plow snow, slush, or ice onto any public street or sidewalk.  During snow events, parking on public streets is not allowed when there is an one inch or more of snow on the surface.  Please remove parked vehicles off the street to allow our crews to plow curb-to-curb.  Once the streets are clear you are free to park your vehicles back to the street. In addition, we encourage Griffith Residents to help each other and look out for the elderly and disabled during the winter  season.

Paved Alleys

The Public Works Department is reminding residents not to use salt or any deicing-products on the alley pavement.  In an effort to sustain and protect the integrity of alleys, your cooperation is appreciated.

Street Signs

Residents are asked to report damaged or missing street signs by calling Public Works. Please note the type of sign, its location and the nature of the issue or damage. Since damaged or missing traffic control signs can become a serious traffic hazard, problems should be reported immediately to the Public Works Department. Or, if after normal working hours or on weekends and holidays, Residents are asked to call 911.  Public Works maintenance personnel will be notified to make necessary repairs. Removal of a street sign is a criminal offense.
