Can I pay my utility bill online?

Yes, you can!  You may pay your utility bill online by clicking pay my utilities tab on homepage. A 3% service fee applies.

Can I transfer my water service to a new address in Griffith?

No, new customers and existing customers moving to new locations are required to present a government-issued ID and to sign an Application for Service at the Clerk-Treasurer’s Office before service can be activated for an address. 

Do I get any discount on my water bill for filling my pool?

If you plan on filling your pool/hot tub prior to May 21st or after September 20th, please read your water meter before you begin water usage and after you are done. Call the readings into the Clerk-Treasurer's Office (219) 924-7500.

If you plan on filling your pool/hot tub between May 21st and September 20th, the Summer Sprinkling Credit applies.

Do I need to license my pets with the Town?

Yes, you do need to license your pets with the Town. Licenses can be purchased from December 1st through February 28th.  A current Certificate of Vaccination is required and the rabies shot needs to valid within a year. Pet Tag Details

How can I find out if I’m registered to vote?

You can find out online if you are registered to vote on the In.gov Voter Portal.

How do I register to vote?

You may register to vote at the local BMV office located at 1038 E Ridge Road, Griffith, IN. There phone number is (888) 692-6841.

You can also register to vote online on the IN.gov Voter Portal.

Is a deposit required to obtain utilities?

Yes, by ordinance, a deposit of $100 is required for each housing unit where water and sewer is utilized. In addition, you will be required to present a government-issued ID and to sign an Application for Service at the Clerk-Treasurer’s office.

What are the Clerk-Treasurer office hours and how can I contact you if I have a question?

What day is my water bill due?

Bills are mailed on the 5th of each month and are due on the 20th of every month. If the 20th falls on a Saturday, it is due the prior business day and if the 20th falls on a Sunday, it is due the following business day. If it is due on a Holiday or a day that our office is closed, it will be accepted the following business day without penalty.

What is a Summer Sprinkling Credit?

In order for a single-family residential user of the town’s sewage services to not be penalized for sprinkling lawns, watering gardens, washing cars and doing similar summertime activities, a sewage discount is applied. This discount is commonly referred to as a Summer Sprinkling Credit. 

A maximum of $40.00 summer credit for any one-month period is available to single family residential users during the billing months of July, August, September and October.  The resident must have received a January bill as this is the usage used for comparison.

What method of payment can be used to pay my water bill or any other fee or service necessary to be paid at the Clerk-Treasurer’s Office?

We accept cash, check, money order, debit card, or credit card (Visa, MasterCard or Discover and American Express) to pay for your water bill or any other fee at the Clerk-Treasurer’s Office. If paying by credit card, an additional 3% service fee applies.            

Utility Bill Payments may be made in the Clerk Treasure’s Office, via mail, online, direct payment and there are drop boxes located by the front stairs and in the rear parking lot of the Town Hall.

When can I get my utility deposit back?

If you are the owner of the property, the deposit can be refunded after two years, upon request, if bills are kept current during the two-year period. Upon moving the deposit will be applied to the final bill.

If you are a renter, the deposit will be applied to the final bill upon moving.

Why do I have to be home to get my water turned on?

To prevent any water damage by a faucet that is left on or a clogged/plugged drain.

Search Tips and Tricks

Do the search results include the contents of PDFs and other documents?

Yes.  The website indexes web pages as well as PDFs, Microsoft Office documents, and text documents.

If I search for a phrase (e.g. alarm permit), will the results only show exact matches?

No.  By default, the search results will show matches for any word within the phrase.  In this example, you would receive results for all web pages and documents that contained either the word alarm or the word permit or both.

In order to search on an exact phrase, enclose your search phrase in quotations.  The search results for "alarm permit" will show matches for that exact phrase.

Can I exclude a word from a search (e.g. all pages that have the word "alarm" but not the word "permit"?

Yes.   You can exclude words by using the minus sign (-).   In order to find the results of all pages that have alarm in the result but not permit, you would search for alarm -permit.
