Apply for Public Works Laborer/Truck Driver Position

The Town of Griffith, Department of Public Works seeks a skilled laborer position. This position performs various duties which may include; Road repair and maintenance, water main and fire hydrant repair and maintenance, Sewer repair and maintenance, seasonal leaf-vacuum duties, snow plowing and lawn mowing or maintenance. Desired individual must be able to operate a wide range of equipment and/or power tools in a safe and efficient manner. Individual must be able to perform light maintenance such as lubricating, fueling and cleaning of dump trucks, backhoes, front-end loaders and similar machinery. Candidate must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, climb ladders, work in all types of extreme weather conditions and work in confined spaces. Position is year-round, 40 hours per week and requires the ability to be “on-call” for emergency call-out situations. Evening and weekend duties may be required. Candidate must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent and possess a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a satisfactory driving record with a minimum of two years’ experience. Desired individual must have the ability to operate equipment in a construction environment and possess the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, construction documents, operational, procedural and maintenance manuals.

Selected individuals must pass a pre-employment physical which includes drug and alcohol screening. Background check is also required.
