Chief Greg Mance is a highly accomplished law enforcement professional with extensive experience and a strong commitment to public safety. He embarked on his law enforcement career in 1999, joining the Griffith Police Department. During his initial years, he served in the patrol division, where he demonstrated exceptional dedication and earned the rank of Corporal by 2003.

In recognition of his exceptional skills and commitment to solving complex cases, Mance was appointed to the Investigative Division of the Griffith Police Department in 2003. As a Detective, he excelled in his role, showcasing his sharp investigative abilities and tireless work ethic. His outstanding performance led to his assignment to the Northwest Indiana Major Crimes Task Force, a prestigious unit focused on combating major crimes in the Region. Within the task force, Mance took on progressively more significant roles, serving as an Investigator, Investigative Team Leader, and ultimately, the unit's Commander.

In 2013, Mance's exceptional leadership qualities and track record of success propelled him to the position of Chief of Police. The Griffith Town Council entrusted him with this crucial role, recognizing his unwavering commitment to public safety and his ability to lead effectively in a demanding law enforcement environment.

Beyond his role as Chief of Police, Mance actively contributes to the law enforcement community in various capacities. He serves as the board President for the District One Law Enforcement Council and the Northwest Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (NILEA), where he plays a pivotal role in shaping law enforcement practices and training programs. Additionally, Mance acts as an advisory board member to Indiana University Northwest's School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA), leveraging his expertise to guide and mentor future leaders in the field.

Mance's dedication to his profession is evident in his educational achievements. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, a Certificate in Public Management, and a Master of Public Affairs from Indiana University, Northwest. These credentials further enhance his ability to make informed decisions and lead with a comprehensive understanding of the complexities of the law enforcement landscape.

Throughout his career, Mance has received numerous accolades for his exceptional contributions to law enforcement. Some notable awards and acknowledgments include the NW Indiana Public Information Officers Association's Beyond the Call of Duty and Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer awards, the Hoosier State Press Association's Governor Frank O'Bannon Sunshine Award, the Chicago Police Department's Joint Operations Award, NAMI Indiana's Gloria Goeglein Public Policy Award, and his induction as a member of the Society of Innovators in NW Indiana.
