Active Shooter Presentation

The Town of Griffith will be hosting an Active Shooter Presentation from our Indiana Department of Homeland Security District 1 partners at the Griffith High School Auditorium (600 N. Wiggs). The event starts at 6:30 pm on Monday November 14th. We encourage you to please attend and invite your friends and family. You don't need to be a Griffith resident to attend.

It’s a sad fact of life in the 21st century that active shootings have become a regular occurrence in the United States. Terrorist groups are using active shootings to terrorize people both here and abroad.

According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, active shootings in public places are becoming increasingly common. Which means it would serve everyone to uunderstand how to respond if they ever find themselves in the line of fire. An Active Shooter is an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area; in most cases, active shooters use firearms(s) and there is no pattern or method to their selection of victims.

Active shooter situations are unpredictable and evolve quickly. Typically, the immediate deployment of law enforcement is required to stop the shooting and mitigate harm to victims.
Because active shooter situations are often over within 10 to 15 minutes, before law enforcement arrives on the scene, individuals must be prepared both mentally and physically to deal with an active shooter situation.

This program encourages citizens to make a plan in the event of an Active Shooter situation. The plan should be as common as severe weather plans or fire plans and be part of your safety toolkit. This applies both at your place of work, and for the safety of you family when in public places..

This program has a focus on the United States Department of Homeland Security’s Run, Hide or Fight initiative. This program helps people in the community to develop a dialog on how to respond if confronted with an Active Shooter situation.
